On April 19-20, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) delegation visited Haiti to get an up-close look at the USG global health programs in action and to reaffirm HHS’ commitment to bettering health in Haiti. The delegates, who included HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, CDC Director Thomas Frieden, Office of Global Affairs Director Nils Daulaire, HHS Chief of Staff Sally Howard, Global Health Initiative Executive Director Lois Quam, Office of the Americas Director Craig Shapiro, and Minority Health Deputy Assistant Secretary Nadine Gracia, met with the Haitian Minister of Health and First Lady Sophia Martelly and visited several CDC partners and program sites. DB’s Marsha McCary, Wilson Dolne, Marisa Hast, Nora Purcell, Alton King, Martin Fogl, and Nicholas Schaad participated in the visit and discussed the progress being made in Haiti regarding immunization, HIV, cholera, water, sanitation, and maternal health.
